You may not imagine what an 8-year-old boy is able to do to save other people's lives. In this heartbreaking story, Tyler J. Doohan, saved six relatives from a burning trailer, in upstate New York. But he died after he went back to rescue his grandfather who had not been able to get out of the mobile home.
Tyler, who was staying at the home of relatives on Sunday night, was able to wake his relatives who were sleeping inside the trailer. But he himself was overcome by the smoke and fire when he tried to help his grandfather escape. They were both found dead on a bed in the back room. Another relative was also found dead in a front room.
The news devastated his mother who said she could only think how he couldn't breathe. But she sitll found hope to say her: "I'm just so grateful that he went with people that he loved. He didn't go alone."
His story of courage and heroic action may truly become an inspiration to many.
"In bravely and selflessly giving his own life, he was able to save the lives of six others -- and he truly is a hero," said Richard Stutzman Jr., interim superintendent of the East Rochester School District, where Tyler attended fourth grade, in a statement, according to CNN.
