Brazilian megachurch pastor and televangelist RR Soares launched Thursday a television network in the southeastern city of Criciúma.
Soares is a missionary pastor and founder of the International Church of the Grace of God, which has over 2,000 churches worldwide. The church is famous for Soares' television show on faith and runs its own TV International Television Network (RIT in Portuguese).
On Thursday, Soares attended the inauguration of the new station in Criciúma city, called "TV Primavera (Spring TV)."
"It's a joy to be in Criciúma, knowing these people and that every day gives us the honor and prestige of the audience," said the pastor.
Soares is known to have a grueling schedule, holding six services a day. "This is not my work, but God's," he said.
This morning, he inaugurated the first service on the TV station in Criciúma, which was broadcasted live across the country. He conducted two more services this afternoon.
"I like to travel around Brazil and the world, talking to people, preaching. This is my mission," he said.
Soares' faith program, in addition to being broadcasted on its own network television, is also broadcasted during prime time slots on major television networks, such as the Bandeirantes network.
The pastor preaches the Bible, and, according to supporters, through his preaching many lives have been changed through healing, deliverance from addictions and restoring of families.
Spring TV is scheduled to have seven hours of local programming. The remainder will be operated with RIT TV network.
