No sings of the end of the world have been reported but people have taken May 21 very seriously to the point of giving up all their savings, to killing their own kids.
The following stories are true.
(KTLA) A Los Angeles mother slit her daughter's throats, 11-years-old and 14-years-old before failing to slit her own throat on Friday evening. She wanted to prevent her daughters from suffering through "the Tribulation" according to officials. The young girls were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and are not in the custody of the Department of Children's Services.
(MSNBC) A retired Metropolitan Transportation Authority Working in New York, Robert Fitzpatrick, 60, reported to have spent more than $140,000 of his savings on subway posters and bus shelter advertisings about May 21.
(NPR) A married couple decided to say not to medical school and instead spend their life savings in Orlando in a rented house with their 2-year-old and their second child due in June. They budgeted everything so that by May 21 they wouldn't have anything left.
(CBS 5) A Californian man, Bill Tinker planned to euthanize his pets, a cockatiel, parrot and a cat on Friday night because he didn't want them to suffer. The animals were seized by the Sonoma County Animal Care and Control after word spread about his plans. He said, "I plan to put my babies to sleep when the earthquake hits Denver, I don't want them to suffer."
(NY Times) A woman quit her job and began spreading the word about the end of the world with her family. The family stopped working on their house and college savings for their children.
(Capital News) A man in Kenya hanged himself on Saturday morning in his church's store. It is believed that he did it because he feared the end of the world.
